Reputation is tracked per faction: Lower Levels, Upper Levels, Security, Black Market and Revolution, plus the Sector 13 Cartel on chemist runs. Trading with a faction's customers and doing their requests raises it; reporting, refusing and crimes against them lower it. Hitting −100 with any faction except the Black Market ends the run (Lynched, Assassinated, Framed, Bombed, Retired). Security is the easiest to max for the Diplomatic achievement — report wanted criminals (+5 each) and take Model Citizen.

Security’s case against you
Selling contraband builds a case. From a 1.0 chemist guide ⚠️:
Each sale adds its price to the case, scaled by faction — Cartel 0, Revolution ⅓, Black Market ½.
The case drops by 20 a night while investigation progress is under 80.
Outcomes (allthings.how): under 300 a fine, 300–1,499 arrest, 1,500+ execution.
Liquid extract is never contraband — finish drugs right before you sell (chemistry).
Wild’s Fixer (350/450/550) and Evidence Removal (500, +100 per use) clean things up.
FAQ
How do you get max reputation in Probably Stolen?
Pick one faction and feed it. Security is the easiest: report wanted criminals (+5 Security each, +50% bounty with Model Citizen, which also starts you at +30). Maxing any one faction unlocks Diplomatic (14.7% of players on Nov 1).
What happens at −100 reputation?
The run ends: Security −100 = Framed, Lower Levels = Lynched, Upper Levels = Assassinated, Revolution = Bombed, Cartel = Retired. The Black Market has no −100 ending (allthings.how).
Does high Security reputation help?
Yes. Inspection bribes get cheaper as Security rep rises, and a Steam guide reports that at 100 Security rep thieves stop robbing you, so you can drop insurance.
Which faction should I sell contraband to?
Each contraband sale adds to Security's case against you, scaled by who you sold to: Cartel deals add nothing, Revolution about a third, Black Market about half (from a 1.0 chemist guide that cites the crime-system data). The case falls by 20 a night while the investigation is below 80.
